Tonight, at a minute past twelve o’clock, a 50-day Ley Seca will sweep through the backstreets of Lima. With another election looming, the city-enforced Dry Law prohibits sale and consumption of all intoxicating liquors, giving way to clear minds for voting, but quashing all thoughts of raucous celebrations for the impending New Year’s Eve. That is, in all but one place…
Those in the know – and you can now consider yourself as such – will journey to Casa Clandestino, a hidden drinking den located up in backstreets of Lima’s bohemian district, Barranco, and obscured from the prying eyes of the late-night Liquor Inspectors. This New Year’s, for one night only, an evening of unlawful drinking, unrestrained carousing and uninhibited festivities will take place.
The Casa doors welcome those prudent enough to have concealed their person and path with a covert headdress; secrecy is the name and game of the evening, after all. Inhibitions left outside, revellers will feast on a celebratory menu by Señor with cocktail creations in-hand and live music to complement.
